History of Apollo Lodge NO. 921
Apollo Lodge No. 921 Free and Accepted Masons is the youngest of Huntsville's three Masonic Lodges. The light of Freemasonry first appeared in Alabama at Huntsville in 1811, when the Grand Lodge of Kentucky authorized the creation of the forerunner of Helion Lodge No.1. Over the years, as Huntsville changed from a small town to a major city, it became obvious that one Masonic Lodge was no longer sufficient to serve the brethren of the community. Thus, our sister lodge, Solar No. 914 was created in 1962. Five years later on August 12, 1967, Apollo Lodge No. 921 was instituted. The name recalls Phoebus-Apollo, the god of Light in classical mythology, who illuminated the world, warmed the pastures and brought forth fruit of the earth.
